Contract:Faralda Ndsm Crane Hotel - Amsterdam

Azienda:Villeroy & Boch

Progettista:Edwin Kornmann Rudi

The appropriately named "Crane Hotel" lies in what was once an industrial district in the north of Amsterdam, an area that has since become a creative and culinary hotspot. Anyone looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city centre can mix with local designers and artists in the popular bars and restaurants found on the former wharf. Edwin Kornmann Rudi discovered the crane by doing just that, and then developed the idea of transforming it into a unique hotel.
The transformation was something of a challenge. The crane was protected as a historic monument, and establishing a foundation was found to be a profitable way to implement the project. Led by Edwin Kornmann Rudi, a team from IAA Architects worked on restoring and transforming the crane. Three years later the hotel was ready to welcome guests, thrilling visitors with luxury suites at heights of about 35-45 metres and spectacular views across the city
