Known for its collaborations with the foremost talents in contemporary design, Ligne Roset presents the consumer with a lifestyle choice, complementing its furniture collections with decorative accessories, lighting, rugs, textiles and occasional items. The Roset Group is distinguished from other manufacturers by its tradition of close collaboration with both established and emerging designers. Matching its deeply-held belief in design with investment and technical innovation, it possesses the knowledge and ability to build and consolidate a worldwide distribution network.
Creativity is a key value of the Ligne Roset brand: if a new product demands new materials or new productions methods, the company will acquire them. Seats, pieces of furniture, lighting, textiles, rugs or bed linens: the idea precedes and the technique follows. Anything is possible.
It all began in 1860, when Antoine Roset opened a wood processing factory in Montagnieu, in the Ain province of France. Very quickly he and his son Emile diversified into the production of wooden umbrellas, walking sticks and, perhaps significantly, chair frames.
In 1950, against a background of postwar reconstruction, Antoine's grandson Jean quickly shifted the focus of the company - which now employed 50 people - to contract furniture. Tables, chairs and beds were produced for public institutions ranging from schools and colleges to hospitals, universities and retirement homes. This signalled the beginning of a period of intense growth, with contracts representing the most significant part of the company's business until 1960, when Jean Roset took the decision to move into the domestic market.Jean's sons Pierre and Michel joined the family business during the explosion of creativity which was the hallmark of the 1960's and 1970's. This presented a golden opportunity to revitalise the company, and they began to work with interior architects and designers such as Michel Ducaroy. 1973 was a significant year, seeing not only the birth of the Ligne Roset brand and the opening of the very first Ligne Roset stores, but also the launch of Michel Ducaroy's Togo, a model which still enjoys enormous success today.Since 1973, Ligne Roset has stood by these intrinsic values and has worked with only the most exciting and talented designers. The past 40 years have seen collaborations with award winning Didier Gomez, Pascal Mourgue, Peter Maly and the Bouroullec brothers, among others. The brand's consistent commitment to excellence has been internationally recognised and most recently symbolised by consecutively winning the red dot "best of the best" award, along with numerous Via awards.Ligne Roset is now accepted as a leader in the international design world. There are 850 Ligne Roset stockists worldwide. The brand is represented in every capital city.Looking to the future, Ligne Roset aims to continue to explore a 'different' side of design, working with designers from a broad spectrum of cultures and backgrounds. This trend is set to continue, illustrating afresh that the Ligne Roset brand is constantly evolving, and seeking fresh challenges for the future.
Designer-manufacturer-distributor, Ligne Roset's products are developed at their factory's site, where they can control the quality from the beginning to the end. For this reason, "Ligne Roset" is stamped on each product, an external symbol of perfection. The company's headquarters have been located in Briord, France since 1973 and have evolved considerably since that time. The belief of Jean Roset, shared by Pierre and Michel, was that the corporate office should be preserved in honour of the Roset family history, and of all those who shared in the evolution of the company.
