Ron Arad

Born in Tel Aviv in 1951, educated at the Jerusalem Academy of Art and later at the Architectural Association in London, Ron Arad co-founded both the design and production studio One Off in 1981 and later, in 1989, Ron Arad Associates architecture and design practice with Caroline Thorman. In 1994 he established the Ron Arad Studio, design and production unit in Como, Italy. Ron Arad was a guest Professor at the Hochschule in Vienna from 1994-97 and is currently the Professor of Furniture Design at the RCA in London. Ron Arad was guest editor of the 1994 International Design Yearbook and his work has been widely featured in many design/architectural books and magazines world-wide. He has exhibited at many major museums and galleries throughout the world and his work is in many public collections including, among others, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, Metropolitan Museum of Art, N.Y., Victoria & Albert Museum, London, Vitra Design Museum, Germany. His design projects for many leading companies include the Spring Collection, Misfits and Sof Sof for Moroso, the ?Bookworm? and ?FPE? chair for Kartell, various chairs for Vitra and projects for Fiam, Driade, Alessi, Artemide and Guzzini, among others. Ron Arad?s architectural projects include the Tel Aviv Opera in Israel, the Belgo restaurants in London, the development of a concept of Sport Cafes incorporating state of the art interactive A/V technology for Adidas/Kronenbourg, an advanced technology private residence in London, various gallery and exhibition designs. Ron Arad presented the winning scheme for the new flagship Adidas Stadium, Paris. In April ?97 a totem commissioned by Domus magazine was erected in the centre of Milan a stack of 70 vacuum-formed aluminium chairs with a live pixel-board top chair advertising events during the Salone del Mobile.
