Antonio Citterio

Antonio Citterio was born in Meda (Milan) in 1950.
Graduated in architecture at the Milan Polythecnic, since 1972 he worked with Italian and international companies, such as Ansorg, Arclinea, B&B Italia, Boffi, Brionvega, Flexform, Flos, Fusital, Hackman, Inda, Kartell, Pozzi e Ginori, Tisettanta, Tre-P&Tre-Piy, Vitra as a product and industrial designer.
In 1981 he began his activity in the architecture and interiors field.
Together with Terry Dwan from 1987 to 1996, he designed many architectural projects in Europe and Japan, developing interiors for stores and offices.
Among their more prominent joint projects are a commercial and administrative complex in Seregno (Milan), the Headquarters in Milan , Amsterdam and Antwerp for Esprit; a production plant for Vitra in Germany and for Antonio Fusco in Milan.
In 1999 the �Antonio Citterio and Partners� with its founders, Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel has been established as a multidisciplinary practice with experience ranging from architecture to industrial design and graphics.
Active in the product design field, private and public architecture, space planning and showroom design, commercial design, corporate image and location design.
In April 2000 is the opening of the new headquarter in Milan in Via Cerva 4 and in the following month the new office in Hamburg in Wrangelstrasse 75b, of which the founders partners are Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel, Jan Hinrichs and Marlo Scheder-Bieschin.
Current projects under way include:
the Edel Records GmbH headquarter building in Hamburg (6500 sqm), a unit for offices and production in Legnano (11000 sqm), a textile firm near Milan (2500 sqm) and the renovation of the Milan underground line 1 and of Roma underground line A, the new concept development for Emanuel Ungaro fashion stores and Zegna Sport clothing stores in Europe, North America and Asia.
Antonio Citterio has been visiting professor at the Domus Academy of Milan, the La Sapienza University of Rome and he gives lectures and holds conferences worldwide.
He has been on various juries and committees.
Among awards received, are the Milan Triennale�s Compasso d�Oro in 1987 and 1995.
The container unit �Mobil� and trolley �Battista� for Kartell are on permanent exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
�Mobil�, Battista�, �Dolly�, �Gastone�, e �Oxo� are part of the permanent collection at the Paris, Centre Pompidou.
The table ware collection �Tools Citterio 2000� designed for Hackman is part of the permanent design collection at the Architecture and Design Museum in Chicago.
Since 1999 he teaches at the �Accademia di Architettura� in Mendrisio (Switzerland).
Antonio Citterio lives and works in Milan.
