Matteo Bazzicalupo, born in Parma in 1966 and Raffaella Mangiarotti, born in Genova in 1965, founded the deepdesign studio in Milan in 1999.

They both graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan with degrees in industrial design in 1991 and went on to earn Doctorate Degrees in 1995. They have been
collaborating since 1994, and their joint projects include the design of products and new scenarios for companies in various sectors, including Whirlpool, Glaxo Smithkline,
Imetec, Panasonic, Mandarina Duck (with Ilaria Gibertini), Coca Cola, Barilla, Castelli Haworth and the Torino 2006 Olympic Organization. Bazzicalupo and Mangiarotti
are research associates and professors at the University of Genova and have taught design at Bocconi University Business School in Milan. They have won various
prizes including Young & Design, Esaedro and Cosmopack and have presented their design methodology on television for RAI Tre.
