In spite of his too short career as designer, Joe Colombo left many proofs, still topical, of his creativity.
After experiences in various art's fields, from 1963 he devotes himself to the design of products for industrial mass-production; many of those objects, assembled in different ways, look as true product's systems. In 1964 wins IN-ARCH Award and, in the same year, others three Awards, at the Triennale in Milano: a gold and two silver medals, one of them for MINI-KITCHEN by Boffi. In 1966 he becomes part of Domusricerca and takes part in the first "Eurodomus" in which includes the Mini-Kitchen and the Central-Block kitchen.By experimenting new materials and the most advanced technologies, he creates a "futuristic habitat "and multifunctional mono-blocks in "VISIONA 1" for Bayer and, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the "TOTAL FURNISHING UNIT", with the Kitchen-Block realised by Boffi. The Museum chooses for its permanent collection the upper said "Mini-Kitchen" as well.
He has obtained many quotations and Awards in addition to the above: two "Compasso d'oro" ; the International Design Award in Chicago; the Tecnhotel and the S.M.A.U. Awards. Many monographic exhibitions have been presented and his works have been exhibited and are part of the most important Museums collections all over the world.
In 2012 the original Mini-Kitchen is revisited, it comes the new version outdoor.
